Sweet Creek Falls Hike
From Florence, head east on 126 to Mapleton. Continue on 126 toward
Eugene by turning right to go across the bridge. Once over the bridge
take the first right - this is Sweet Creek Road. Continue
approximately 11 miles to the trailhead. Look for the signs. It
is a short hike on a well maintained trail. Ideal for all age groups.
Enjoy the raging water in the winter and spring, the warmth of summer and
the golden colors of fall - beautiful waterfalls all times of the year.
It is worth the drive. There are many "photo ops" - your pictures will
look like something you see on a calendar or postcard. Continue up the
road for additional hiking trails.
3-Mile Lake Hike
Head South on Hwy. 101 from Florence. Turn right on Sparrow Rock
Road which is located between the 207 & 208 mile marker. Continue down
gravel road approx. 3.2 miles to the trailhead. You will see a small
sign. The trail is relatively short - about 1 mile - with moderate
terrain. There is a nice sandy beach area at the end of the trail for
a picnic. If you are looking for serious hiking, this may not be the
one for you. The improved trail is short. We continued "off
trail" and traveled around part of the lake. It was not easy
going. Many fallen trees to climb through and over on the west side of
the lake and marsh like areas on the east side. We did enjoy the
challenge.
Tahkenitch Campground Hike
Take Hwy 101 South. Between the 202 & 203 mile marker you will see
a sign for the trailhead. This is a nice hike through the dunes to the
beach. The trail is not marked very well but it is hard to actually
get lost. There is a portion of the trail that has been closed.
Comes out at a very quiet stretch of beach.
